“Your child’s vision plays a huge role in their education and development – protecting their most precious sense is vital”
Poor vision can cause many children to feel unhappy and even disgruntled at school. An inability to focus on the book in front of them or the board at the front of the classroom may lead to disruptive behaviour.
We recommend that all children attend an eye examination with experienced optometrists before they attend school. It doesn’t matter whether they haven’t learned to talk yet either; our fun and friendly optometrists can still examine their eye health in detail.
Throughout their school life, your children’s vision is developing and it is important that their eye health is checked at least once a year.
Your children may not be able to tell you whether or not they have an eye condition, simply because it may feel normal to them as their eyes develop. Many common eye conditions show no symptoms until they reach an advanced stage, and if left untreated, this can have an effect on their education and career choices.
It is important that you are vigilant with your child’s vision as they develop. Things like making sure they are reading in a well-lit room and taking breaks away from the TV is beneficial. Below, we’ve listed some of the signs for you to look out for. If you spot any of these, we suggest that you book an eye examination straight away:
- Excessive blinking
- Poor co-ordination
- Poor performance at school
- Sitting too close to the TV
- Sore and inflamed eyes
- Holding books close to their face
- Scrunching their eyes to focus
Once their eye examination is complete, our optometrist will discuss your children’s vision requirements with you and give you all the information you need to best protect their eyes.
As with adults, your children’s eyewear is as much an accessory as it is an essential visual aid. We select only the most robust and eye-catching eyewear so that your children can enjoy the rough and tough of the playground.
We understand that a trip to the optician is not always the most fun a child can have, but we certainly do our best to keep your little ones engaged and happy. All we need you to do is keep them still while our experienced optometrist examines their vision in detail.
